The Mesi and the rise of the Baidol: A Brief History

-The Mesi were a tall race of mammals who originated somewhere in the grasslands of the more temperate western continents.

-They were extremely clever and remained the dominant species of the planet for about 2,500 years or so. Their technology was similar to that of ours today.

-Despite their intellect, they were very proud and refused to admit that they might not be the only truly intelligent race on the planet.

-The yellow country on the map gained a new ruler who was determined to bring his neighbors to their knees.

-Allied with the blue and green countries, the alliance brought the western countries under a shaky control.

-As the yellow country on the map began to expand eastward, along the east coast of the Great Ocean they began to run into the Baidol, who were living along the coastline and in the shallows.

-Other, smaller tribes of Baidol lived in the open ocean, while others lived in the numerous unclaimed tiny islands of the Great Ocean.

-At first there was an attempt to make peace, until such attempts failed due to both species' pride and the Mesi's patience ran out and they tired of dealing with the barbarians.

-After the initial failed attempts at peace, the Baidol were pushed back into the shallows and laws were passed to prevent them from returning to dry land. Overcrowding resulted, and the Baidol tribes who had been pushed together began to group together.

-Conflicts ensued as the Baidol began returning to land as food supplies began to run low. Baidol began to plot and infiltrate the lower levels of Mesi society. Meanwhile, wealthy Mesi began to take young Baidol from the tribes to civilize them and train them to work as laborers or house servants. These were the first educated Baidol.

-The Baidol uprising begins, and successful infiltration by Baidol into the Mesi army foils the Mesi counterattack at the Battle of the Salty Marsh.

-A combination of war, instability, and internal conflict caused the fragile new Empire to shatter. Surviving Mesi fled to the Ice Sheets or the Great Inland Desert where their descendants are rumoured to still reside.

-The more educated Baidol who had served the Mesi or infiltrated their ranks began to occupy the cities the Mesi had abandoned and brought their tribes with them. They began to educate the new generation and attempt to teach themselves. They began spending more tine in their Upright form to operate the Mesi machinery.

-Some Baidol became angry at the new order in the cities, which was almost as oppressive as the rule of the Mesi (as the leaders were enforcing everything from education to employment to housing in order to establish a strong government) and returned to the few tribes that remained in the more rural areas.

-The Baidolian government started out nice and shaky. The West was settled, rebellions were put down, the Kratocracy was sorted out, and everything got ironed out into a nice Elective Parliamentary Monarchy. Whoopdedoo.

-The main Baidolian State, which existed mainly in the former yellow, green, and blue countries (the red, orange, and purple were still considered to be developing frontier) began to attempt to conquer some of the many islands of the Great Ocean. War broke out with some most of the islander tribes.

-Most of the islands defeated and added to the State as colonies.

-Exploration into the Great Desert and the Ice Sheets begins.

-First contact with extraterrestrial races.

-Huge boost in technology and culture.

And I wanted to submit this as a piece of writing, but then the map ended up too small to be of any use. >>

Anyway. Woah that looks long. It's actually waaaaaaaaaaaay longer, but I didn't want to flood you guys. _{Especially since no one really cares. -shot-}

I have been building up the Baidol's world a bit for the past week or so. I have a nice bit of dialect sketched out for the rural tribes, and I hope to start working on a branch or two of said dialect to use in both the tribal and island settings. I haven't worked out a language for the Mesi yet, which is why the countries are referred to as colors. Pittu, Baidol, and Daidyem are actually all Mesi words, if that helps you any.

I wanted to make an old map. I just wish it hadn't kept me up until two. >> I winged it, but I rather like the result.
